Admitted to the Paris Bar in 2013, Marie-Sophie Baud joined the firm in June 2014.
She holds a postgraduate degree (maîtrise) in private law and a master’s 2 degree in the history of criminal law from the Paris II Panthéon-Assas University. She is also a graduate of the Political Science Institute (IEP), and holds a master’s degree in contemporary history from the Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University.
Marie-Sophie developed a keen interest in criminal law very early on. She is currently working on her doctorate at the Paris II Panthéon-Assas University, where her advisor is Philippe Conte, Director of the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Law. The title of her thesis is: “La manifestation de la vérité dans le procès criminel, une étude comparée entre la France et les Etats-Unis” (The emergence of truth in criminal trials, a comparative study of France and the United States).
As a student, Marie-Sophie completed several internships with the Paris courts and the law firm Thierry Lévy & Associés. During her time at the Bar School she was one of just ten students in France selected to attend the National School of the Judiciary (Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature) for a six-month period.
As a complement to this solid grounding in the technical aspects of law, Marie-Sophie also gained valuable insight into international law during several internships at the French Foreign Ministry, where she developed her skills in legal English and sharpened her knowledge of comparative law.
Before joining Soulez Larivière & Associés, she served as parliamentary assistant to French MP André Vallini and worked at the law firm of Lombard Baratelli et Associés.
She has built up experience in white collar crime and in civil law, representing clients at different types of hearings (before the criminal courts on minor and major offences, the commercial courts and civil divisions of appeal courts, bail hearings and interlocutory hearings).
She is also registered as a criminal defence lawyer with the Paris Bar, acting as a court-appointed attorney for foreign citizens.
